La Trattoria brings an authentic taste of contemporary Italian life to the heart of Helmsley. La Pizzeria is a new concept restaurant from The Fat Chef. Based in Malton, North Yorkshire, La Pizzeria serves authentic Neapolitan pizza and oven baked Italian classics, all cooked in the traditional way in a wood fired oven. This is informal dining at its finest – high quality cooking, the best ingredients and a warm, friendly environment. 
All dishes prepared from scratch, using the finest locally sourced ingredients, alongside high quality, authentic produce imported from Italy.

Born in South Africa, Francois started working in restaurants aged 14, and has been in the kitchen ever since. He left South Africa for England in 2005 and it was here, in the narrow galley kitchen of a London Italian restaurant that he first gained the nickname The Fat Chef. Whilst the weight may be long gone, the name has stuck! 
At the end of 2016, Francois began working on La Pizzeria, an exciting new Italian restaurant concept in Malton which opened in August 2017. 
Meet Francois 
The Fat Chef is owned and operated by Francois Strydom, a charismatic, experienced chef with a real passion for food, and a flair for Italian cooking. 
As The Fat Chef Company developed, the focus of the business changed, and Francois took over his first restaurant in 2016. 
After honing his craft for several years in restaurants across the country, Francois became head chef at Jamie’s Italian in York. In 2013, he founded The Fat Chef Company, initially as an event catering business and restaurant consultancy.
